My xorg.conf after updating the radeon drivers with default settings:# /etc/X11/xorg.conf -- Generated at Mon Dec 27 23:10:35 2014 by /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.dSection "ServerLayout" Identifier "Default Layout" InputDevice "Keyboard" InputDevice "Mouse"EndSectionSection "Monitor" Identifier "Generic Monitor" Option "DPMS" Option "UseDisplayDevice" "CRT-0"EndSectionSection "Device" Identifier "Default Device" Driver "radeon" #Option "DRI" "Enable" Device "Device0"EndSectionSection "ServerLayout" Identifier "Default Layout" InputDevice "Keyboard" InputDevice "Mouse" Option "Xinerama" Option "Xinerama" "On"EndSectionSection "Monitor" Identifier "Generic Monitor" Option "DPMS"EndSectionSection "Device" Identifier "Default Device" Driver "radeon" BusID "PCI:1:0:0"EndSectionComment out the keyboard section to the end including options for AMD. This should fix you problem.Disable backlight and brightness by setting the light and brightness keys under xfce settings. Also disable the Fn keys.If the nvidia drivers are not used, disable that by removing or commenting out the input device section to the end of device section. This is to prevent fglrx settings to be used.Disable powersaving mode for radeon at startup. Disabling modesetting i915 should help as well. Either set them to modeset=0 or disable them. Remember this is present in oneric and earlier.
OK, I have made sure that you have installed amdgpu-pro-installer xorg-edgers & accepted the EULA. Then upon reboot you should see a menu where you can select linux radeon or linux intel. If you select linux radeon, you will be given the terminal and if you select linux intel you will be given the login prompt.
I would try testing the new open source radeon driver -> search rpmfusion.org. It's very basic and does not have the same features as the proprietary driver but I would say it's better for testing than the proprietary one. Anyway I would like to see if you can figure out why your machine is black-screening and why it does not work with nomodeset. Try a few things like this: press ctrl+alt+f1, then type this: d2c66b5586
