Anthony Davis is a monster, we all know it. Realistically, what do you think the chances of them landing AD? The Knicks do have a couple eggs in the basket though. Of course they have the 2019 pick, and they may have the ability to take on Jrue Holiday's contract, which would mean a lot for the Pelicans who would be in rebuilding mode.
What do you think?
I personally don’t want to give up any of our young talent for AD. Honestly, I would not take him period. I would continue with the current rebuild we are doing with the young talent. If we give away all our assets just to get AD, we are still going to be losing. We have been losers for more than a decade, I think rebuilt from the ground up and not taking short cuts is the way to go.
Realistically, Management best option is to trade Jordan and Matthews before trade-deadline for some draft picks and go all in this Summer for Boogie and Tobias Harris, or Boogie and Klay Thompson. These players have the talent positional wise that we need, and their age is in sync with our goal of a Championship calibre team within next three years.
The ultimate plan was to end up with a young trio of AllStars. I think trading for AD is worth it. Yes the cost will be very steep as it should be. People are wary due to what we gave up for Melo. The Melo situation didn't work out due to the decline of Amare. If Amare did not decline we would have had 2 stars in orbit to attract low cost vets. If the Knicks can get Anthony Davis while retaining at least Porzingis, Mitch, and Trier I could live with the cost. Getting someone pre-prime who already great is rare. I don't think we realistically have a scenario where we still have room for Durant and beat out other offers. Like Simeon says we have the advantage by being willing to take on Jrue Holiday. In the east Jrue is a borderline All-Star and his defense is something we haven't had in a long time.
I think the issue people have is that they think the Knicks can acquire all star and keep their young players and that's far fetched. At some point your either going to have to extend these younger players for real money or let them walk. These cheap young players don't stay cheap forever.
